MICHEL NORRISH
Picture
We are very saddened that Michel Norrish, a long term club and committee member, has passed away suddenly.

Michel joined our club in 2013. He had previously played bridge in the Wairarapa and came to "try us out". We are super pleased he did and we have been lucky to have his statuesque and gentlemanly presence in our playing room. He played regularly on Monday, Thursday and Fridays, helped at the beginner lessons 2015-17 and took a few improver lessons during that time.

He was a committee member and recently took on the role of organising and delivering the improver lessons. He was equally generous at the bridge table, often playing with, and mentoring newer players.

He also had some directors experience and in his early years of membership was happy to support the director  "as long as he didn't have to go near the computer"! He  kept the bridge table honest.

Michel enjoyed his bridge very much and played right up to his passing and won the last series he played in with his partner.

Michel was a friend to many. He was a much valued and respected member of our club who contributed many of his finely tuned skills to many members.

He will be greatly missed.

Michel's service is being held at the Cockburn St Chapel, Kilbirnie on Monday 9 March at 11am.

RIP Michel

Working Bee Saturday 28th Feb 2026
On a beautiful autumn day, twelve members of our club turned up to clean up the garden and the parking lot. An impressive speedy team and within the hour and half all was completed.
Many heartfelt thanks to Lester Goodfellow, Jo Stewart, Baubre Murray, Martin Dowse, Todd Beardsworth, Jamie McCarthy David Hamilton, Teresa Stempa, Jill Duckworth ,Russell Cockburn, Wendy Cockburn, and Jenny Foote for their willingness and efforts.
Thank you Wendy for bringing the delicious egg sandwiches for morning tea as well as that powerful leaf blower!. Thank you also to Jamie McCarthy for taking the trailer load of green waste to the tip free of charge to the club.

Why Learn Bridge?
People play bridge for many reasons.  Many players are more interested in the social interaction with their friends, others like the challenge - they like to win.  But also ... it is good for you!
Bridging the gap: Why playing bridge is good for you ... and fun

TESTIMONIALS
  • "Feel the fear and do it anyway!  As a busy person with not much room in my head I never expected I would be able to learn Bridge - the lessons are clear and well-paced and give all the basics that are the foundation of the game.  So it you are up for stretching your brain and making some new connections then give Kairangi Bridge a go"
  • “The series of lessons was invaluable.  Each week we built on the knowledge from the week before and gained confidence.  Simon and Karen were excellent teachers and it was great to have experienced players to come along and explain the finer points of the game while we were practicing.  Everyone is very friendly - lots of laughs!  The perfect entry opportunity to the game."
